Hinna KapoorShare
Janmashtami is a beautiful celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna, the mischievous, butter-loving, flute-playing deity loved by kids and grown-ups alike. Whether you're already familiar with Krishna’s stories or just beginning to explore Indian festivals with your little ones, Janmashtami is the perfect opportunity to spark curiosity and creativity at home.
👶 5 Fun Facts About Krishna (Your Kids Will Love These!)
1. Krishna was born at midnight.
Janmashtami is celebrated at night because Krishna is believed to have been born just past midnight in a prison cell in Mathura.
2. He loved butter - A LOT.
Krishna was known as Makhan Chor, or the butter thief. He’d sneak into kitchens and clay pots to steal freshly churned butter - and even shared it with his friends!
3. His skin is often depicted blue.
Why blue? Symbolically, blue represents infinity and calmness. Many believe Krishna’s skin reflected the vast sky and ocean.
4. He played the flute beautifully.
Krishna’s music was said to be so magical that even animals would stop to listen. His flute is one of his most recognized symbols.
5. He lifted a whole mountain to save his village!
When angry gods sent heavy rains, Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill on his little finger to shelter everyone. Talk about super strength!
